Boards slightly worn at corners, armorial bookplate of William Middleton of Crowfield Hall Suffolk on front pastedown, front endpaper partly cracked, endpapers and title page slightly foxed and slightly spotted, pronounced horizontal wrinkle to last few pages, otherwise a very good clean tight copy. The work is a history of the pleasures of dining and drinking from classical times to the 18th century, dwelling particularly on France and then England but also reviewing customs in Russia, Italy and Germany. He names many writers on cookery throughout the period covered.…
