Frontispiece tipped-in photograph of the author, with tissue guard. Sixteen illustrations. The preface states:- "These papers were selected and arranged by Frank Buckland, shortly before his death, with a view to their early publication. The substance of them had appeared in 'Land and Water.'" Book in very good condition. Spine a little discoloured and gilt titles have worn away. A little wear to head of spine and to lower corners. Boards generally a little rubbed and soiled. Gilt badge to upper board still bright. Dentelles to inner edges of pastedowns might once have been picked out with gilt but there is no trace of this now. Top edge marbling somewhat darkened. Tissue guard to frontis lightly creased. Some light spotting to early and late pages but text block generally clean and bright.

Illustrated with numerous vignettes. In a decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally, smart, with just some slight bumping. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just a few instances of foxing. Very Good

Marbles page edges. Full leather hard cover with gold gilt titles to spine. Gold gilt emblem inscribed to front with words Liverpool Institute Schools above. Some slight edge rubbing but in nice condition for its age..

Red boards with double gilt fillet and inner dentelles; gilt decorated spine with black title label and raised bands; marbled endpapers and edges. Very slight scuffing to leather. Award sticker from "Shipley House" on front end paper. The book came to Good Reading with the front board virtually detached from the body of the book. It has been professionally restored meaning that although the spine retains the original strip, this has been glued onto new red cloth.The hinges have also been reinforced. The book looks as though it was ever thus. Internally near fine. A very attractive copy. Illustrated. Buckland was inspector of Fisheries.
