The notes were taken by Melvin Lax, Conrad Longmire and Arthur S. Wightman. This book is a selection of certain topics in the theory of atomic nuclei, which are treated in an elementary way. The emphasis in this book is placed on the problem of nuclear forces. This problem was, at the time, the central problem in nuclear physics. This problem is treated in this work entirely from the empirical point of view. Also addressed is the theory of beta disintegration.
