About This Item
Troy, NY: W. & L.E. Gurley, 1874. Small Octavo. Frontispiece, [3]-234p. 12 plates, in text illustrations. Dating their instruments before 1909 is difficult but this edition greatly expanded the size of the 1868 edition published after the Civil War and it shows the improved instruments used such as the plates and text showing the railroad compass and the miners' compass. The Surveyor's Transit plate shows the latest advance at the time at a cost noted on the plate of $241.00. Previous owner's name, John B Gordon, Virginia, 1875, errata slip. A fine bright copy bound in green cloth lettered in gilt.
