About This Item

NY: Random House, 1964. First edition, first prnt. One of an unknown number of author's copies inscribed by Taylor to personal and professional acquaintances. This copy inscribed on the front free endpage as, "For my friend Mrs. Francis Brawley at Floradon, who is so selfless in her help to the English-Speaking Union and throughout our community with warm best wishes and in esteem, and in the hope that she may enjoy reading this story half as much as this neighbor enjoyed writing the remarks on Page 146. Most Sincerely, Henry J Taylor. Mrs Francis Brawley on Publication." At the top of the page Taylor has written "Author's Copy." On p 146 Taylor has marked a paragraph that describes one character with a line in the margin and has written next to it, "Hello, Mrs. Brawley!" The character was modelled on the inscriptee. Beginning foxing on the foreedge and faint offsetting on the endpages; dustjacket with three short tears, minimal edgewear with two small chips on the front panel bottom edge, wrinkles on the rear panel top edge and beginning toning on the spine. Near Fine condition in a Very Good dustjacket with an archival cover. Taylor's first novel after five works of non-fiction.. Inscribed & Signed By Author. First Edition. Hardcovers. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Association Copy.
