[Kyoto].: [Uchida].. (Circa1950s).. Four numbered woodblock prints with added hand colour each 27.6 x 40.6 cms, tipped onto original backing sheets 34.3 x 48.6 cms in the original decorated stamped striped folder with title label (a little scuffed and worn, small tide-mark on an inside fold) scattered foxing affecting two of the prints (more pronounced on one), but the whole in very good condition. Suite of four numbered costume prints, after the Meiji-era artist Kin-U Takeshita captioned on the label:

1. Gensan (New Year's Day)
Costume in the 18th Century
2. Mushiboshi (Airing)
Costume in the 17th Century
3. Momijigari (Maple-viewing)
Costume in 8-12th Century
4. Keibu (Race Meeting)
Costume in 12-15th Century .

Kyoto, Japan: Uchida Art Co., circa 1950s. Color wooduct. 275 x 410 mm. Publisher's chop in the image. Lightly matted The Uchida Art Gallery, which is still active, was founded in 1919 in Kyoto as the Uchida Bijutsu Shoshi (Uchida Art and Book Shop). This art bookstore was also a print publisher specializing mostly in shin hangaprints and ukiyo-e reprints. One of its most famous artists was Tokuriki Tomikichiro (1902-2000). Other artists published by Uchida were Hasegawa Sadonabu III (1881 - 1963), Ito Nisaburo (1910-1988), Kotozuka Eiichi (1906-1979), Asada Benji (1899-1984) and Kinu Takeshita. The English language on the label is erroneous, describing this as autumn rather than winter.
