Austin: Gammel-Statesman Publishing Company, 1903., 1903. First edition. First edition. 8vo. Inked presentation inscription on the front pastedown sheet. Original red cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, iv [2], 483 pp. plus 17 pages of advertisements, dedicatory preface, preface, frontispiece (Battle of San Jacinto from the painting by McArdle), illustrated with twelve full page engravings, portraits, including photographic portraits of the Dallas Texas Volunteer Guard, biographical information on many early state officials, footnotes, and contains an index for volumes I & II. Author was appointed the first State Librarian by Governor Hogg. His two year books are a wealth of documented information for the period and cover diverse topics including military statistics on the Civil War and its veterans, biographies of important personages and their portraits, agricultural information. The great Texas bibliographer's works are scarce. "Every bit as valuable as the early Richardson almanacs, and full of articles, biographies, reports, and statistics unavailable elsewhere." - Jenkins. Bright red cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, spine panel resewn with original spine laid down, else a solid very good, tight copy.
