London: Methuen & Co., 1900. Hard Cover. 4 leaves, 344, 47 p.; 19.5 cm. Front & back flyleaves are lists of "Methuen's Colonial Library"; includes a 47-page November 1900 Catalogue of Books. This comprises eleven stories based on Crane's dispatches for Blackwood's Magazine of his coverage of the Spanish War during the Spring of 1898. Compiled while Crane was desperately ill with tuberculosis, it was the last book completed during his lifetime, although its first edition was by Methuen with a book catalog dated August 1900 (Crane died 5 June, 1900); cf BAL 4090; cf Wright III: 1269. This variant is not mentioned in Stallman's Critical Bibliography, 1972; cf. 29 & 30. Bound in plain green cloth (without the ornamentation of the true first) / no dj as issued; good+. Stock#OB837.
