Taylor; Scatcherd and Whitaker; T. and J. Egerton; E. Newbery; J. Barker; J. Edwards; Ogilvy and Speare; J. Cuthell; J. Lackington; J. Deighton; and W. Miller, MDCCXCIII [1793]. Full calf, spines ruled and decorated in gilt, boards ruled in blind and gilt; all edges gilt. All volumes have been neatly rebacked, preserving the original spines except in the case of volume 14, where only the lower portion of the original spine remains. In the case of this volume, the restorer has done a very impressive job of replicating the tooled decorations and titles of the other volumes. The newer leather is a somewhat lighter color, however. The textual history of this edition is described fully in Murphy, Shaakespeare in Print, section 375. It was the last of several editions published by Steevens and was very influential on nineteenth century editors of Shakespeare. Front boards of volume 6, 9,and 13 detached but present. (Subject: Drama.)
