Light, general wear; rear board of Volume I professionally re-attached; front joints starting to split in Volumes II, V, light foxing to front and rear blank pages in most volumes; else a near fine set. This new edition by Basil Montagu, Esq. is considered to be the definitive and most desirable edition of Bacon's works. Bacon has been called the father of empiricism. He led the advancement of both natural philosophy and the scientific method and his works remained influential even in the late stages of the Scientific Revolution.The Baconian theory of Shakespearean authorship holds that he wrote the plays which were publicly attributed to William Shakespeare.
