Maurice Baring was an English man of letters. He was also a dramatist, poet, novelist, translator and essayist. He had a wide social circle and associated with the Cambridge Apostles and the Coterie. Edmund Waller was an English poet and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times. His lyrics were admired to excess however soon lost popularity. He was regarded as the pioneer in introducing the classical couplet into English verse as a fashionable form of writing.
