Half brown morocco with marbled paper over boards, green ribbon bookmarks, topedges gilt and gilt spines with raised bands. Near fine with some light wear to the edges, a wear to ends of the bookmarks and a contemporary pencil gift inscription and name ("H.G. Lippincott") on front fly-leaf in one volume. A collection of Charles Dickens works jointly published by Chapman & Hall of London and J.B. Lippincott Company of Philadelphia. They include: *Pickwick Papers* (2 vol.), *Nicholas Nickeby* (2 vol.), *Barnaby Rudge / Hard Times (2 vol.), *Martin Chuzzlewitt* (2 vol.),*Old Curiosity Shop* (2 vol.), *Oliver Twist*, *Sketches by Boz*, *Bleak House* (2 vol.) *Great Expectations*, *Little Dorritt* (2 vol.), *Tale of Two Cities*, *The Uncommercial Traveller*, *A Child's History of England*, *Christmas Books*, *Christmas Stories*, *Edwin Drood*, *Our Mutual Friend* (2 vol.), *David Copperfield* (2 vol.), *American Notes/Pictures from Italy*, and *Dombey and Son* (2 vol.). A handsome set.

Synopsis

Charles Dickens (7 February 1812  - 9 June 1870) was an English author of many notable works, including Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist , and A Tale of Two Cities.  Multiple publishing firms have released bound collections of his works.  Notable sets of Dickens Works have been published by Chapman and Hall in a 24 piece set, and Baker and Taylor in a 12 volume set.
