About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, 1969. Stated First Edition. Hardcover. Good Plus. 8vo, blue cloth with black binding. Rubbing to extremities, and few dimples, scratches and what appears to be a binder's error to front board. NOTE: Slightly musty, but not bad. Boldly SIGNED (not inscribed) to front free endpaper. Rear free endpaper shows a penciled sentence: "We teach not to generalize". Edgewear and several very small chips to top edge of dustjacket, with original $4.95 price to top of front flap. Fifth title by by San Francisco longshoreman/philosopher Hoffer. Begun in June 1958, it throws light "upon the workings of a highly original mind...for its glimpse into the world of the wtaerfront and men who are seldom articulate on their own behalf. During this period the world was in a state of agitation...and...these influences are reflected in the journal entries. Hoffer, always the individualist, reacted to the times with perceptive candor and wit...Working and Thinking on the Waterfront, the record of one decisive year in the life of an articulate and provocative personality, provides rare insights into the creative process."
