Woodcut part titles to Canterbury Tales, Romaunt of the Rose, and Book of Thebes. Full page portrait of Chaucer headed' The progenie of Geffrey Chaucer.' Full page armorial woodcut. Woodcut headpiece at the commencement of The Knight's Tale. No Errata leaf, the position of which ESTC describes as 'variable'. Old dark sprinkled calf with a recent reback to style. Tooled in blind with a two line roll and corner tool. Neat old repairs to the corners. The spine with raised bands and tltled direct to the spine. 19th century armorial bookplate. Black letter text. The first three leaves with signs of old water stain to the foot. There is a short (10 mm) worm track in the blank lower margin of the prelims which soon becomes a single pinhole. A paper fault to the lower fore edge of Nii just touches a few letters. The text block is clean and tight, with good margins. The first Speght edition, it contains many works wrongly attributed to Chaucer including The Owl and the Nightingale, and John Lydgate's The Fall of Thebes. ESTC S107209. An excellent copy.
