Hap Grieshaber (1909-1981) was a German artist who took up the traditional tools of his 15th century forebears. Following on the Expressionist re-appropriation of this medium he brought a contemporary spirit to its practice. "If I found in wood a creative resistance which regained for me a world of balance and measure, this was the natural reaction to the social disorder into which I was born." - Grieshaber.
