About This Item
Chicago : Reilly and Lee, 1940. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6.5". John R Neill. The first edition of 'The Wonder City of Oz' by John R Neill. This is a continuation of the previous Land of Oz books by L Frank Baum. 'The Wonder City of Oz' is the thirty fourth in the series of the Oz books by L Frank Baum and his successors. This is the first edition of Neill's work, evident by its 16 gatherings and pictorial endpapers. Subsequent editions had plain endpapers and 32 gatherings. The first edition had bindings in blue cloth, green, beige and orange. (Greene, Handd, Martin p.86) Written by and illustrated by John R Neill, who previously illustrated more than forty books from the Land of Oz series. 'The Wonder City of Oz' is the first of many Oz books by Neill. In original blue cloth binding with pictorial image pasted to the front board. Externally, smart with some rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine also. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's signature to the 'This book belongs to' page, John Webster. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Very Good
