Red cloth with gilt titles to spine and front, with gilt vignette of two children with faun to front cover, as well as blind-stamped title. No dustjacket. With pictorial brown and cream endpapers. viii, 207pp, large quarto. Pictorial title page. With 24 colour plates, as called for, from watercolours and lithographed drawings by Arthur Rackham, including frontispiece, with titled guard-leaves to the watercolours, as well as small b&w line drawings by him in the text. The illustrations are all present, though some have been bound-in next to pages other than their listed positions. Six traditional stories adapted by Hawthorne. A Good copy overall: the contents are generally very good and clean, with no inscriptions, occasional light mark, and browning to endpapers and gutters, as well as some colour bleed to front endpapers from red of cloth. Binding sound though slightly stretched in places. The covers are rather worn but have bright gilt ; cloth has various light marks, spine cloth is faded and has small splits to edges, and ends; corners bumped. and rubbed. Photos available.
