Solid hardcover.; Eli Lundy Huggins was raised in Minnesota, where his parents assisted missionaries at Dakota Indian Missions. He remained a professional cavalry officer after the Civil War, earning a Medal Of Honor in 1880 for action against the Oglala Sioux in Montana. The title poem reflects his romantic vision of the decline of the Native Americans, a typical theme of the period.
