Large octavo (7-1/2" x 10-1/1") in quarter brown Swiss linen over boards covered with a natural wood veneer, spine lettered in gilt, front cover decoration stamped in gilt; 168 pages. Translated from the German in the Meter of the Original by Theodore Martin. With an Introductory Essay by Thomas Carlyle. Illustrated with lithographs drawn on the stone by Swiss painter Charles Hug. Copy #39 of 1500 SIGNED by the illustrator on the colophon page. Monthly Letter laid in.
