About This Item
Brisbane: Scott Redford, 2012. Signed. metal and dice. 18 x 11 x 7cm. Scott Redford sculpture, being a rectangular structure (roughly 18 x 11 x 7cm) consisting of a metal base, turned up at the sides and with the corners cut out, on which rests a wire cage part filled with six-sided dice, black with white dots, and presumably numbering 152 (although we haven't counted); two lengths of heavy wire fold over the ends of the cage; a barred, inverted cone hangs from centre top, trapping one of the dice at its (open) tip; titled in black texta on the underside of the base ""Why Not Sneeze Reinhardt Dammn"", signed 'S.R.' and dated 8-3-2012; further to the title is inscribed 'Rat c**t...'; the sculpture is after Duchamp's 1921 assisted Readymade ""Why Not Sneeze Rose Selavy?"", Redford replacing Duchamp's alter-ego with his own fictional 'Reinhardt Dammn'; the dice might also be seen as a reference to Mallarme; an obscure Redford object, for which we can find no exhibition references.
