A first-hand account by scholar Sir Richard Francis Burton, based on his journey to a British outpost in Africa. Includes descriptions of African tribal rituals concerning birth, marriage and death, and of tribal fetishism, ritual murder, cannibalism, exotic sexual practices, etc. Burton is best known for his authoritative translation of the Arabian Nights.
