About This Item
Philadelphia: for the Benefit of the Sanitary Commission, 1864. First Edition. Octavo. Portrait frontispiece, iv [5]-10-140pp. In every war, above all, in one like this, there are countless sublime acts which are never heard of, host of heroes among the nameless dead. This narrative has been compiled from Newhall's own letters, placed at the disposal of the editor by his family and from the recollections of his friends and fellow officers. This is a memorial to a young Pennsylvania cavalry officer who died in action late in 1863. Bound in 1/4 black linen over red paper covered boards, brown coated endpapers, previous owner's name, upper joint repaired. A very good copy. [Nevins p. 181].
