Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Co., [1947]., 1947. First edition. First edition. Corner ends bumped and small tape residue on front paste down sheet, else very good in dust jacket with moderate wear to the extremities. Set in Jericho, Kansas, in the late 19th century, a struggle for power between two men involve the entire town. Lawyer Dave Connors is married to Belle, the town lush. Connor's best friend's wife makes a pass at him ... a pass that he immediately rejects. She retaliates by printing vile lies about Connor in the town paper. The result is the complete destruction of Connor, causing him to leave Jericho.
