New York: Amphoto, (1971). First edition. Oblong octavo (7.25" x 8.75"), 151 & [5] pages, profusely illustrated. Publisher's red cloth lettered in white on the spine, in pictorial dust jacket.
Binding slightly spotted, small stain & minor foxing affecting front pastedown, ffep, & half title page, otherwise very good in corner clipped dust jacket (price intact), soiled, toned, rubbed, with edge wear including nicks & small losses, still good or better.
William "Bill" Jay, himself a photographer, presents a history of the nude as a subject for the camera from the earliest days of the genre through 1970. Profusely & delightfully illustrated, the models, with few exceptions, are beautiful young women in a variety of circumstances. Photographers represented include Sam Haskins, Wojciech Plewinski, Mario Giacomelli, Weegee, Wynn Bullock, Lucien Clergue, & numerous others.
