About This Item

Yale University Press, 1962. First edition, first printing. With a foreword by Dudley Fitts. From the Yale Series of Younger Poets. This is the poet's first book. With both poetic and romantic associations throughout. The book is dedicated to Laura Ulewicz who was a poet associated with the North Beach San Francisco Beat generation and was a lover with Gilbert. The frontispiece woodcut portrait is by Gianna Gelnetti who was also an intimate with the poet. Always strong work by this poet. Near fine illustrated wraps with the gentlest use and usual light toning around spine
