Synopsis

Malachi Martin's fictional account of the Vatican - specifically, it's bureaucratic and financial network which is maintained by a mysterious figure known as the Keeper. It follows Richard Lansing, a young priest from Chicago, who joins the Vatican in 1945, and rises into the confidance of several popes, sees the fall of Mussolini, the murder of a pope, and more intrigues smoothed over by the history of the Vatican.
