London: Hacon & Ricketts at the Vale Press and printed at the Ballantyne Press, 1903. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Octavo. cxviii, [2] pp. Limited edition, one of 310 copies. Bound in green cloth and stamped in blind with a design by Charles Ricketts; gilt title on the spine; printed on handmade paper with a "mermaid" watermark by Messrs. Arnold. This copy shows moderate soiling to the covers and fading of the spine; light shelfwear with the spine ends being a bit softened and top corners gently bumped; offsetting to the endpapers, otherwise, a clean copy free of the foxing that is often found in this set; contemporary bookplate on the front pastedown; textblock is unopened. The Vale Press Shakespeare is one of the most elegant editions of Shakespeare to come out of the Arts & Crafts Movement. A remarkable production from one of the most significant of presses of the time. Watry B44/37.
