Washington: A.O.P. Nicholson, Printer, 1855. Hardcover. Good. First edition. Quarto. Illustrated with 13 plates: 6 topographical tinted lithographs, 1 folding tinted and hand-colored lithographic plate: "Panoramic view from the summit of Santa Lucia, Santiago", 3 folding engraved maps, 1 lithograph portrait of an Araucanian chief printed in multiple colors, and 2 additional maps. Complete. (A fourteenth plate listed in the contents: "Plan of the city of Valparaiso," was not issued in this copy). Contemporary blind-stamped publisher's cloth, with a gilt centerpiece on the front cover. Ex-library copy with spine letters, bookplate, and paper label on the rear free endpaper, else no other markings. Joints are partially split, light intermittent dampstaining in the margins, a good or better sound copy. The plates are very clean and bright.
