First Edition/First Printing. DJ has shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities (rear panel split from the spine, light chipping present to the spine ends). Bound in green cloth boards with titles present to the spine. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards are faded and sunned along the spine). Foxing present to the endpaper. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Published in 1936, this is an examination of the rise and rule of fascism in Italy. After Salvemini's arrest in 1925 for opposing the newly formed Italian fascist regime, he left Italy but continued to actively organize resistance to Benito Mussolni in France, England and finally in the US. From 1930 to 1948 he lectured in History at Harvard University. Salvemini founded the antifascist Mazzini Society in Massachusetts in September 1939. He obtained US citizenship in 1940.
