London, 1881. First Edition. Hard Cover. (London: David Bogue 1881). First U.K. edition. Octavo. pp [ii], xviii, 192. + 32-page publisher's catalogue dated June 1880 inserted at the rear. Illustrations by F. Church and J. Moser. Publisher's original pictorial bevel-edged gray cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black and gold, rear panel stamped in black, grey end-papers, all edges stained yellow. 4 inserted plates (tissue guards present). A VG++ copy. No inscriptions. Firm hinges (no cracking). Bright and clean boards (with none of the usual soiling so often seen). Gilt lettering bright and NOT dulled. Some toning to both sets of end-papers. A bookseller's ticket to the rear paste-down. A tiny bit of rubbing to the spine tips. The author's first book and the first of his Uncle Remus books. A most attractive copy and much brighter than normally seen of this uncommon first edition with the first issue June 1880 adverts to the rear. Photographs/scans available upon request.
