About This Item

1996: Red Wagon Press, [Boca Raton, FL]. First Edition, Red Wagon item no. 6, Limited No. 19 of 65 copies. SIGNED by the author. 8vo. 17 unnumbered pages. Illustrations, dating from Renaissance Italy, are used courtesy of Il Collezionista, Milan. Printed letterpress using Centaur and Arrighi types on Genesis paper. Wrappers in dustjacket made of Nideggan paper brushed with black walnut stain; 1 1/4" x 2 5/8" label to front self-wrapper. A fine copy. From the estate of artist Eleen Auvil, with a gift card laid in. This book is filled with the author's family lore and recipes surrounding a traditional syrup brewed each year for many curious and wonderful holiday celebrations in Autumn and Yuletide-this ingredient makes its dramatic appearance in festive foods from I Morti (the Italian version of Day of the Dead) to Santa Lucia's Day and, of course, Christmas. Red Wagon Press was the imprint of John Cutrone of Boca Raton, Florida for books he wrote, printed from handset type and bound himself. The press morphed into Red Wagon Bookworks; Cutrone and Seth Thompson, by then the proprietors of the press formerly known as Red Wagon, announced on October 23, 2003, the rechristening of the press to Convivio Bookworks.
