About This Item
UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,revised 2nd edn,11th imp.[True 1st edn orignally published 1954,the 2nd revised edn in 1966 with five following yearly impressions, restarting 2 years later, then a 3 year gap upto 1978 (10th imp) and then this imp, 1980.] NFINE/NFINE.Neat,blue ink gift presentation inscrptn to top edge of front pastedown - partially hidden by dw/dj's front inner flap, and no price-clip to dw/dj - absence of publisher's price.Bright, crisp, clean, glossy laminated, colour pictorial illustrated dw/dj,with white+blue lettering; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present. Some small loss of colour laminated paper to head of spine/backstrip - no other chipping or loss.Top edges coloured,fore-edges minimally aged with some sporadic spotting/foxing; contents bright, tight, and clean, solid and sound - near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases nor foxing - would appear unread.Publisher's bright, crisp, clean, sharp-cornered,original,plain burgundy(?) cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt letters to spine/ backstrip and near immaculate plain white endpapers. The immaculate and tear-free fold-out map to rear pastedown is loose, but still present and would stand sympathetic re-glueing.UK,8vo HB +dw/dj,rev'd 2nd edn, 11th imp,9-352pp [paginated] includes synopsis, contents list/ table,Book Three and Four comprising 11 and 10 chapters respectively.Plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, epigraph, and Books separator pages. 'The Lord of the Rings' is not a book to be described in a few sentences. It is a heroic romance,in the words of the novelist Richard Hughes 'something which has scarcely been attempted on this scale since Spenser's 'Faerie Queen',so one can't praise the book by comparisons - there is nothing to compare it with.'
By an extraordinary feat of imagination Tolkien has created, and maintains in every detail,a new mythology in an invented world. The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' and those who are going to read them.

Synopsis
The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien is a gripping and dramatic continuation of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Frodo and Sam find themselves on a treacherous path towards Mordor, burdened by the corrupting influence of the One Ring. Guided by the treacherous Gollum, their friendship is tested amidst the perils they face. Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Fellowship, joined by the kingdom of Rohan, confront the formidable wizard Saruman and his dark forces. Battles erupt, sacrifices are made, and the forces of good are pushed to their limits. With the fate of Middle-earth hanging in the balance, the book sets the stage for an epic clash between light and darkness.
