Some foxing and dust stains to top page edges. Some dust stains to margins of endpapers. A 1" chip at corner of front panel of dust wrapper. 1/4" missing at head of dust wrapper spine. A 1/2" chip and some smaller 3/8" chips and tears to margins of dust wrapper. Dust wrapper protected in archival mylar cover. ; 142 pages. Black boards. Page dimensions: 184 x 123mm. A history of mountaineering on Mount Everest, from its naming by the British in the mid 19th century, to the British attempts to reach the summit in the 1920s, to the successful summiting by Hillary and Tenzing in 1953. The book seems to have been written for younger readers or young adult readers, but is still a readable account for the adult reader. With illustrations by F. Stocks May. "Here, in fact, told by an expert mountaineer and a fine writer, is the complete dramatic history of the events which finally placed Hillary and Tensing on the summit in 1953." - from dust wrapper blurb.
