Illustrated with seven plates and text drawings by Arthur Hughes and Sydney Prior Hall. Bound by Kelligram in full sage green crushed morocco, the spine with gilt titles and football ornaments with panel rules and cornerpieces, the upper cover with ornamental borders and large central pictorial device of Tom and another school boy adjusting the clock tower, the boys clothing, faces, and hands set with onlays of black, brown, tan and flesh colors, the lower cover with central device of cricket bats, a.e.g. Original cloth covers bound in rear. Tom Brown's School Days was a very popular novel set at the Rugby School in the 1830's.
