The expedition was sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society, of which Thomson was a fellow. He was the first European to cross the hostile Masai land to the Victoria Nyanza, confirming Krapf's sighting of Mount Kenya. Uncommon in the UK first and a nice copy in a pretty binding. 1885
