She tells of the cruelty and unexpected kindnesses that befell her during her four-year incarceration. The three who survived were her son and herself in the women's camp, and her agriculturalist husband in the men's camp, all of whom lost nearly fifty percent of their original body weight by the time they were liberated by British troops in 1945.
