About This Item

Clapham, England: Dalesman Publishing Co., Ltd, 1962. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Very Good. L. S. [Laurence Stephen] Lowry. Narrow 8vo. Pp. viii, 95. Frontis. L. S. Lowry drawing of Crowther Street, Stockport. Foreword by BBC Director-General Hugh Carleton Greene. Olive green cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine: tail of spine bleached, perhaps a production flaw. In the two-color illustrated dust jacket: price clipped, edges rubbed, three short closed tears to the back panel. Forty-one contributions to the popular radio program upon its tenth anniversary, "portraying the Northern scene and its people in a delightfully intimate way." The Lowry street scene features his "matchstick" figures. The charming dust jacket, featuring a three vignettes (residential, industrial, waterfront) done in blockprint style by "Waters," is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
