New York: Chas. [Charles] A. Burkhardt, 1896-1905. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 x 9 inches. Each volume starts with Index (filled-in in Vol. I, blank in Vol. II) followed by 160 pages with printed lines on left pages (Play, Theatre, Date, Accompanied by, Impression, criticism etc.) and blank on right for clippings. Every page in both books is filled-in (mainly on the left, the 1st 4 categories, not much criticism, on the right page usually the cast page pasted in from the program) documenting 160 shows in chronological order. Irma Dewitt Loveman (1883-1959) married Arthur Lewis Stern in 1907, lived in NYC. First entry is for Brian Boru Oct. 26, 1886, (she would have been 13 years old) last entry in Vol. I. is for Dolly Varden Feb. 1902. Vol. II starts with The Rogers Brothers in Harvard, Sept. 4, 1902 and ends with Ibsen's A Doll's House, starring Ethel Barrymore May 5. 1905 at New Lyceum Therter NYC (Irma would have been 22). Of note is a performance of The Wizard of Oz at Majestic Theater NYC June 1903. Almost all from NYC, a few from Cleveland. mostly broadway theaters, Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall etc. Also loosely included are 5 complete programs from 1905-1907. Condition is Very Good; Front cover of Vol. I detached but present - other 3 hinges are very weak, pages and clippings are very clean. A fascinating collection of theater ephemera and impressions.
