About This Item

New York: Smithmark, 1995. 1st Printing. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8x0x8. First printing. Jacket spine lightly faded, jacket spine head lightly bumped. 1995 Hard Cover. 64 pp. Teddy bears are a part of our childhood, but they are more than toys: we take our bears with us, through childhood and adolescence and into adulthood. We talk to them, sleep with them, take them to special hospitals, write books and poems about them, turn to them in times of crisis, and insist that ours is unlike any other. The first American teddy was born early in the century and named after Teddy Roosevelt and soon bears were being produced in huge numbers for delighted children (and grownups) all over the US.Teddy Bears includes wonderful full color photographs of highly prized and loveable antique bears in the positions of the day: having breakfast, riding a hobbyhorse, getting married and playing with toys. Poems and bits of evocative prose about teddies by such diverse authors as poet John Betjeman and Colonel Henderson the great teddy collector.
