[Camden, NJ?]: Privately printed, 1928. First combined edition (Tarpomania was first published in 1908, Buck Fever in 1911). 8vo. (10), 59 pp. [printed rectos only]. Illustrated from photographs, eight plates, four to each title. Text printed within thin green rule; elaborate colored initial letters. Johnson was the co-founder of Victor Talking Machine Company and the leading producer of American phonographs for a time. Bruns J-31: "Very limited edition, quantity not known." Callahan "Partial Tarpon Bibliography," p. xiii: "Certainly the most attractive tarpon book, both in typography and design, and a particularly fine binding ... a rare and handsome book." Heller 181 (for the first edition of Buck Fever): "California deer hunting trip taken by the author in 1908." Not in Phillips. OCLC locates three copies (New York Public, Library of Congress, Miami). A little browning in margins of several leaves, else a fine copy. Fine green crushed morocco (spine and outer portions of boards sunned to a rich brown), gilt, gilt-stamped decorated morocco pastedowns, marbled endpapers, gilt title, rules, and sporting ornaments between raised bands on spine, t.e.g., others untrimmed, elaborate white, black, and red tarpon onlay, with gilt-stamped line, on upper board, by "The French Binders, Garden City, N.Y.". (#2825).
