Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran & Co., Inc., 1945. Tall 8vo. xii, [2], 261 pp. Colour frontisp., numerous colour plates, black & white text illustrations. Yellow cloth, red lettering on spine, butterfly illust. on front cover, illust. endpapers, w/ d.j. cover art by Hasselriis (chipping & tears to upper fore-edge of front & back cover), still NF/G- copy, from the library of Alice Brown Powell (1882-1971), who was responsible for naming the historic “Deepwood” home in Salem, OR, named after a favorite children’s book by Albert Bigelow Paine. Early printing of this title in the author’s “Grandmother” fairy tale series, companion volume to Tales of a Korean Grandmother, and Tales of a Russian Grandmother. Hasselriis (1888-1970) noted Danish miniaturist known for his paintings of Pearl S. Buck, Madame Chiang Kai-shekc, and President Kennedy.
