About This Item

Oxford University Press, New York, 1979. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Photographic & Illustrations. List of illustrations, preface by author, notes, select bibliography and index. Between pages 152 and 153 there are eight pages of black and white photographs and illustrations. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. On the rear dustwrapper panel is a black-and-white caricature of Algernon Swinburne. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... In this new biography of one of the most eccentric and, at best, most original writers of the Victorian period, Donald Thomas vividly portrays Algernon Charles Swinburne as a fiery, brandy-inspired or later of his youth – and also as the meek versifier of his later years." Rubbing of the book corners with softening and rubbing of the back strip. The book panels show some flecking and dark the to the lower edge. Light age toning of the text block edges and pages with a strip of darkening to the free end pages – commensurate with the ending of the laminate of the dustwrapper. Creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with rubbing of the panels. Sunning to the back strip and there is a nasty tear to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel measuring 6 1/2 inches. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [9], 2 - 256 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic & Illustrations. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
