One of only two copies bound for Bogdanovich by the studio. [1], 113 pp. printed on rectos only, photocopy of original typescript. Bound in full brown cloth, gilt spine titles. Near Fine with spine gilt a little worn; faint tidemarks to front and back cloth, also just barely showing at fore-edges of endpapers. Rare, only three institutional copies located in OCLC and none currently in the trade.

The prototype for McMurtry's Lonesome Dove. This screenplay began in 1972 as a scenario intended for actors John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart to be in, then it ballooned to 288 pages, but the film failed to materialize. Larry McMurtry wasn't finished with the story, though, and over the next few years he reworked and expanded it into the 843 page novel, Lonesome Dove, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1985. Four years later that novel became a celebrated TV miniseries.
