Story takes place in small town New England with a somewhat comical assortment of characters and adventures. 12 full page illustrations after original designs by Sol. Eytinge. 25th Thousand. Extremities worn and frayed. Ffep torn out, binding strong. Fep has small sticker from Winson & Higbie Booksellers & Stationers, Rochester. Some pages spotted. 441 pages. Frontispiece with tissue. Several pages at the center are torn approx. 1"" in, text readable. Josiah Gilbert Holland, 1819-1881, was an American novelist and poet who also published under the pseudonym Timothy Titcomb.

New York Scribner, Armstrong & Co. 1875.. P/NONE. Selling book AS IS. Brick red cloth boards are damaged and torn at spine ends. Corners have been chewed off. Signatures are loose and some are barely holding on. Pages 165-170 have a 1/4x21/2 inch piece missing at tops. ; Twentieth Thousand printing. Frontispiece entitled 'Turn this boat around'. Tissueguard. Pencilled ownership on ffep dated 1875.some foxing throughout. Light natural page browning. Pages 260-441 have a small water stain along top and outside edge of pages. As you go further it gets bigger. Still a nice early find of this book. ; Small 8vo; 441+ads pages; NC. Illustrat ed by Illustrated by Sol. Eytinge. Binding is Hardcover. .
