Signing reads, 'Best wishes/from/Syd Wignall'. Illustrated with photographs, maps and line-drawings. Sydney Wignall (1922-2012) was a Welsh adventurer, spy and marine archaeologist who led the first Welsh Himalayan Expedition in 1955. The aim was to climb Gurla Mandhata which was the hightst peak in Chinese-occupied Tibet. He recounts how he was captured by the Red Army and held in jail accused of being a CIA spy. Light bruising to tail of spine; else a near fine copy, in a near fine d/w, of a SCARCE first edition, first printing SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.
