About This Item
Albuqueque; (1966, 1970, 1977 and 1984): University of New Mexico Press. First Editions. Octavo. In 4 volumes: V. I: 462 pp., 528 pp., V. 3: 702pp., and V. 4: 785pp. and signed by editor Charles H. Lange. illustrated with photographs, maps and numerous drawings by Adolph Bandelier. This work is comprised of a day-to-day field notebook, as well as an intimate diary of Bandelier's daily observations and moods. The journals provide a firsthand account of a pioneering anthropologist's reactions to the Southwest. The four volumes cover the years 1880 through 1892. Bandelier traveled extensively in New Mexico. Mexico, Arizona, and brief trips to Illinois and Europe. He visited nearly all the northern pueblos, lived in Santo Domingo, spent months at Cochiti where he recorded ceremonies and delved into the social organization of the Pueblo. All bound in original cloth, spine lettered in gilt, a near fine set in near fine dust jackets. The first volume showing some and spine, vol. 2 with just a bit of fading to spine, vol. 3 light wear head and toning to edges, the second volume fine and the third volume with small closed edge tear to foot of Jacket's spine. The very scarce fourth volume is also fine in a fine dust jacket. Scarce with all four volumes in near fine dust jackets. A very handsome, bright set.
