About This Item
London: Hamish Hamilton Children's Books, 1986. First edition, first printing. Published by Hamish Hamilton Children's Books, London, in 1986. This is a near fine copy. The pictorial boards are bright, clean and beautifully illustrated by Briggs. They are tight at the spine and sharp at the corners. There is very (very!) slight handling marks throughout and the spine is very slightly faded. The internal pop-up pages are again beautifully illustrated and without any notable damage. Unfortunately, the 'musical' element of this copy is not functioning. Overall, this is a near fine copy of a nice, festive title. The Snowman was the runner-up for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in the UK and won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in the US in 1979. It was adapted into a Bafta-winning animated short, first broadcast 26 December 1982, which remains a Christmas classic. A live stage show also remains a firm festive favourite.
