Everything written by Gene Logsdon is superbly written, conversational and with a spicy humor. Small-scale Grain Raising is no exception. It gives good general information on all the major small grains, plus corn and soybeans, how and when to plant, different methods of harvest (small machine and hand techniques), and storage ideas, all geared to someone raising partial acreages of grains who may not have all the expensive combining equipment. It's quite an eye opener to realize that grains can be grown on the large garden scale, and that you don't necessarily need a monstrous combine to produce grain for yourself and a few animals.
I am appalled, though, that I had to order a book published 30 years ago to find this information. Does no one think this subject of interest to modern farmers and would-be farmers. Organic, small, family farms are making a comeback, and no one has managed to publish another book on this subject!? Of course, you don't need another book, if you can get a copy of Gene's, but his book is a little hard to find nowadays.

About Bibliodditiques
Thank you for visiting the home page of BIBLIODDITIQUES - specializing in children's literature, non-fiction, and rare and antiquarian books. This year marks my 12th anniversary in the book trade. I am a graduate of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (2009) and a member of the IOBA (International Online Booksellers Association). I take pride in offering books that are of the same quality that I like to see in my own private collection. Books I sell must meet my own high standards of condition, which generally requires that the binding be tight, dust jackets be intact, and that there be no major defects. I do not offer books that are ex-library copies, unless they are hard to find in any condition. Customer satisfaction is very important to me. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and to send you photos of my listings upon request. Your patronage is greatly appreciated.
