An illustrated first edition collection of satirical sketches of London at the beginning of the Victorian era, illustrated by Phiz. The first edition of this work.A satirical topographical sketch of London as it was just at the beginning of the Victorian era, an entertaining work on the bustling capital of England.Illustrated with a frontispiece, title page, and twenty-two plates.Collated, complete.By James Grant.Illustrated by Phiz, best known for his works for Charles Dickens. In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, rear board is lacking the cloth, remaining paper is worn with marks. Front joint is starting, small crack to the tail of the rear joint. Light surface cracks to the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Cloth to the tail of the rear board is lifting a little. Front board is discoloured with a little rubbing and minor marks. Bumping and a small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spine. Front hinge is tender. Rear hinge is starting. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned with some spots, age-toning and spots heavier to the plates. Good Only

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
