New York: E. Duyckinck. Good with no dust jacket. 1814. Hardcover. Brown paper boards with leather spine have rubbed and bumped corners and edges with some leather cracking and chipping at spine tail. Front board starting. Part of front pastedown endpaper is peeled off. A bookplate is on the front pastedown and another previous owner's name is inscribed on the rear pastedown. Foxing throughout. Pavel Petrovich Svinin (or Svinyin) , here listed as author Paul Svinine, was a Russian painter and writer not known for accurate accounts. "Charged to accompany the General on the continent," he was aide-de-camp to General Jean Victor Marie Moreau, a former supporter of Napoleon and later advisor in the Prussian and Austrian war against Napoleon in 1813. Svinin was present at Moreau's death from wounds inflected at the Battle of Dresden. The appendix of letters contains one from Moreau and a correspondence between Madames Moreau and Bonaparte while Napoleon was in power. ; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; 107 pp .
